Acoustic Emissions Measurement

The Acoustic Emissions option for the GCTS RTR and RTX Series enables real-time monitoring of micro-fracturing and damage processes in rock specimens during triaxial or other compression tests. This upgrade integrates seamlessly with the system’s hardware and software, allowing AE sensors to be mounted directly on the specimen inside the high-pressure triaxial cell. It detects and records acoustic emissions from crack initiation, propagation, and coalescence throughout loading, with full compatibility for a wide range of specimen sizes under confining pressures. Synchronized data acquisition with the CATS software provides comprehensive analysis of failure mechanisms alongside stress and strain measurements. Available as original equipment or retrofit, the option complies with ISRM and ASTM guidelines while preserving the rapid setup and automation of the RTR and RTX platforms. It delivers valuable insights into progressive damage and brittle behavior under simulated in-situ conditions, ideal for fracture mechanics, stability assessment, and evaluation of reservoir rocks or engineered materials.
