The GCTS Residual Ring Shear System can be used to determine the drained residual strength of unsaturated, continually sheared soils by performance of the residual ring shear test. This device was designed to generate accurate results while being easy to use. 


The GCTS Residual Ring Shear System features:


  • Harmonic DriveTM motor technology for zero backlash during computer-controlled rotation
  • Rotational range from 0.001 to 360 degrees per minute
  • 10 kN normal load capacity
  • 300 N-m continuous torque capacity
  • 1000 kPa maximum normal stress
  • 1300 kPa maximum shear stress
  • Tests hollow cylindrical specimens with an inner diameter of 100mm (4 in.) and an outer diameter of 150mm (6 in.)
  • Optional pressure panel to test unsaturated soils

The GCTS Residual Ring Shear System is ideal for determining the drained residual strength of unsaturated soil. It is a fully automatic, electro-pneumatic, servo-controlled system that provides accurate results while remaining easy to use. This system includes our Harmonic DriveTM motor technology which allows for continuous rotation without backlash.


The Residual Ring System can also perform multi-stage tests, allowing a single specimen to be used to determine the residual strength under multiple normal loads. It can also be used to test saturated soil specimens.
